Chests Opened
Chests opened refers to the physical act of opening up a chest, regardless of whether items were taken from the chest.
Tracking Chests was easy until Breath of the Wild. In Breath of the Wild it is possible to open a chest, but not take the items inside it. Due to inventory limitations, it's possible to open a chest, not have space for the weapon/bow/shield inside, and close the chest. This means that there were many chest that where physically opened twice, and thus counted twice.
In retrospect, I'm unsure if this was the best decision, but by the time I gave it any serious thought, it was too late to change it. (I'd rather keep things consistent.)
That said, chests in Breath of the Wild do respawn and repopulate, so even if I was only counting the chests I looted, it would still be possible to reach the same result of chests opened, it just might take a little more time.
