March 6th, 2007 : Weather Headed for Prison?
Yesterday’s snowstorm, dropping 14 inches of snow across Southern Minnesota caused excitement for school children of all ages. By afternoon hills were crowded with children happily sledding and snowboarding.
The storm however, did not sit well with state and local lawmaking officials. Two weeks ago State Legislators passed a law banning weather from dropping more than 5 inches of snow in a 24 hour time period. The 14 inches dropped yesterday has lawmakers in a tizzy.
“It’s not like you can just go out and arrest the weather, but we can’t allow such a dangerous menace to run free through the country.” Says police officer Bob Roberts.
“This is an outrage!” exclaimed legislator Jack Jackson. “This act of weather has been in direct defiance of the law. We will not stand for it.”
Authorities are rather confused regarding this new outbreak of crime, and several people are wondering if it is unconstitutional to actually ban the weather. Lawmakers are undaunted, however, and have stated that they may consider revising the law to allow for a larger amount of precipitations. When asked if they would ever fully revoke the law, Senator Steve Stevenson stated “We have no reason, at this time, to take such unnecessary action.”
