March 6th, 2007 : Mobs of Color
Silence and darkness. Darkness and silence. All around me it was black and quiet. Not a sound could I hear, and not a shape could I see. Not even the wind, or crickets made a noise, and my hand, palm flush with my nose, could not be seen.
This was quite the predicament I had gotten myself into today. Had I known this was where I was going to be six hours ago, I would have stayed in bed. That’s all there was to it. But I did not know that this was going to happen, and I foolishly woke up and went about my business. Silly me.
I suppose you are wondering how this all came about, and since I have nothing better to do in this dark room, I might as well tell you. It all started after breakfast. Breakfast was nice and warm, lots of eggs and fish. Fish and eggs, with a bit of juice. Or glass of juice might be more appropriate for describing the amount of juice I had. It was a juice glass, and not a regular glass, so I didn’t have too much juice. I hear that too much juice can be bad for your teeth. Ah, but I digress.
Anyway, I was headed out of the cafe, and out onto the busy street. There were several mobs of people, each mob being dressed in a different color. It looked kinda funny, as they all ran around, back and forth, from building to building, crisscrossing and merging just to separate again. I thought this was rather odd behavior, so I found a point of higher elevation, by which I mean I went into a department store and headed up to the second floor, and watched from up above.
The chaotic dance continued for quite some time, and everything that group did, was immediately undone by another group. One group was going around putting up WANTED posters, while another group went around taking signs down. One group was washing windows and another group was spraying dirt onto windows. Occasionally these groups swapped tasks and would often be undoing what they had just been doing.
One by one the groups began to disappear. In ten minutes all the groups were gone. I turned around to leave sad to see it stop. As I turned around, I jumped back into the window in surprise, for the groups were all behind me, all staring at me, unblinking. They didn’t move, they just stood there, breathing heavily.
I didn’t know what to do, so I just stood there, thinking perhaps I was dreaming. Suddenly they all rushed me, and I grabbed me, tied me up and blindfolded me. I tried to struggle, but there were so many of them it did no good.
The next thing I knew I was here. In the dark, all alone.
